Josephine Weeks was a longtime resident of Alexandria, Va., who was active in the restoration of that city's Old Town neighborhood and the preservation of historic buildings elsewhere. A native of Washington, D.C., she studied at George Washington University and the University of Paris. During the 1920s, she worked for the U.S. State Department and the Mexican Claims Commission. Mangum Weeks (1895-1977), a white government lawyer, worked at the State Department, U.S. Tax Court, Farm Loan Board, War Department, and at the Department of Justice, where he handled claims relating to the forced relocation of Japanese-Americans during World War II.
